Not sure but I think it has to do with the wipers. Maybe where the washer hose is routed on trucks equipped with it.

I don't have one on my truck. Didn't have a washer hose either though.

Might have been something a PO added, I have a few extra holes on my firewall.

It is a factory hole, I have had 3 cabs with it and all had the plug. I plan on welding mine shut.

53-55 cabs have that and I think it is where the vacuum line for vacuum wipers is routed

My 54 has it too along with the plug. I have electric wipers.

The windshield washer nozzle was mounted on the hood about 6" from the back of the hood.

Probably something for the larger trucks if it isn't for vacuum wipers.

My prior unmolested Truck. Verifying that it was the the hole for the vacuum line.

I'm new here but I just tore everything off my 53 F-100 yesterday so it's all pretty fresh in my mind. The first hole you showed is where the vacuum line went to the wipers and the second hole is a spot weld on mine. There is a matching spot weld on the driver side as well. It looks like someone may have drilled it out for some reason.

Thanks brochacho!!! Welcome to the board!! Do you still have the cowl weatherstripping on? Where the hood touches the cab?? I was thinking it was a screw hole for that.. can you post a pic of that if you still have it? Now that I think about it, that piece might go on the next level up...

The weatherstrip between the hood and the cowl is unfortunately missing from my truck but you are correct, it does install on the next level up. I have a series of "studs" across the cowl where that connects. If it helps it seems that spot weld is pretty deep on mine and almost looks like a hole but it doesn't go all the way through. I would think it would be ok to weld it up. I'm just getting ready to send mine off to the media blaster so I may be able to take some pictures of it when it gets back in a week or two.
