Another high delta thread

So I just got done doing gaskets and studs in my driveway. Everything went pretty smooth and I took the truck on a test drive today. I let it warm up fully before I took it out so I had 192 ect and 196 eot before I even drove it. My delta around town before gaskets was 0-4* and at 65 was 7-9 depending. My recovery was always good i.e. if I had a 9 degree delta and then idled for a few minutes it would drop back to the 0-4 spread. Now i took it on the test drive and saw 18* deltas and that's just up the street i was hard on it a bit but still never used to be like this. I didn't even go on the freeway. I let it idle outside the gas station when I went in to grab some beer and it did not recover. I forgot to check cold soak numbers so I will tomorrow and report back. My oil cooler is under a year old so I'm thinking a distilled water flush and some fresh coolant. I do have a bit of oil residue in there from the gasket job so I was also gonna do the simple green to clean it up. Sound about right? Could I be missing something? Or am I going to be doing a new cooler now?

Try backflushing the cooler through the access port.

What kind of gaskets did you use? I hope the stock Ford ones! Why did you pull the heads? Hope this wasn't a case of " If it ain't broke, why did you "fix" it?"

lol I used ford gaskets and no i pulled the heads cause I had constant 18psi on my cooking system. I could bleed it off at full temp then drive for 2 minutes and it would shoot back to 18psi. They were toast.

My concern is something else could be wrong. It doesn't seem to have a threshold yet just get hotter and hotter. I haven't driven it over a like yet and It got to 20* delta. I'm gonna take her to work tomorrow about a 30 minute drive well see how that goes.

Try taking the thermostat out and driving around a little. It could be stuck closed. If nothing else you will elimate that being the problem.

my question with that is wouldn't my ect be high too? I don't want to pull it because the po cross threaded one of the bolts and I'm on borrowed time getting it in and out.

I saw where you had 192 coolant in drive way so I thought you were saying coolant and oil were rising fast when you drove it. I misunderstood what you posted.

ah sorry no coolant is relatively steady 190-192 if I get on it it will fluctuate. I have replaced the thermostat in the past few months.

What were your temps before doing the head gaskets?

Did you replace the cooler while you were in there?

Did you do a flush at all?

delta was around 7 on flat ground as high as 9 with slight hills. No i didn't replace it with the head gaskets because I had done it last summer. Yes I did a vc-9 flush with a back flush, and heater core flush, i drove on the old one for a few days before installing the new Ford cooler. The one in question now has been fine for almost a year now until the gasket job.

but to expand on this I have not flushed after the head job as I didn't know it was an issue until today. I plan to do a simple green and distilled water flush then add new elc in the next couple of days.

Sounds like you think the cooler is plugged. What was done during the head gasket job that would lead you to believe the cooler is plugging?

nothing out of the ordinary. That is my main reason for posting. I can handle a flush or a cooler replacement myself no problem. My issue is how did it get so bad so quick. The motor doesn't have two hours of run time since the repair, hell not even a hour and a half, not maybe 2 miles and it's this bad. Could it be something else? I know I have a small amount of oil in my coolant from I'm assuming cross contamination. I am still gonna do the flush just to handle that. But these extreme deltas all of a sudden make me wonder if it's something else. It's not the water pump as that is not only new but I can see it pumping in real nice into the degas. Could be a sensor but I doubt I'm that lucky gonna check in the am. Really can't think of what else besides the cooler. Maybe I wasn't clean enough with the repair. Idk that's y I posted.
