what they will do is buzz each injector individually and test them using IDS.

Update. I stopped by the service department this AM when they opened. My truck is still quiet with no knocking sounds. I showed the service manager my video and he immediately said injector problem or fuel issue that let in some water causing detonation. He said not to worry about it and that the injectors where covered under the Emmisions warranty in case one fails.

He also mentioned the possibility of water getting in past the air filter and printed out a service bulletin for a foam filter that goes over the paper filter or something like that, I have to look closely at the paper. It was raining, snowy and wet when the issue started. I haven't checked the filter yet for wetness but when I first got the truck, the filter was wet so I changed it.

If they determine that there is Damage due to Water in your Fuel you can Kiss your Warranty Goodbye. The 1st thing that I would do is drain the Water Separator under the truck to see if contains any water. Then hope that the noise does not re occur, and all 8 injectors are working as designed. Whatever you do, don't mention WATER to any service personel

That did not sound like a injector.

I don't think a wet air filter.

HOW TO

1. Park the truck on a dry place
Get a clean glass container of some type. I use a Pickle jar.

2. Crawl under the driver side door. Look up for yellow turn ****. Inside of the frame rail.
Turn the knop to open the drain value.
Collect 6 to 8 oz of fuel.

3.Turn the **** to stop the flow.

4. Now looking at the fuel sample you want to see clean diesel. It should have slight yellow tent. It should not be clouding nor should it have any water in it. Water could show as little bubbles on the bottom of the container. Also Smell the diesel for the smell of gasoline, you should not smell gasoline.

You should do this once a month.

^^^^ Thank You donovan. I was worried there would be more to it to bleed off the air pocket I created by cracking the valve open, but thats it? Just turn the key on an go afterwards?

Yes, just go after a draining. I use an orange juice bottle with a cap. In the bottle is a clear vinyl hose that is the height of the bottle. I attach the hose to the drain and drop it in the bottle when done. Leave the bottle to settle for days so that any water has a chance to accumulate on the bottom. If it is OK, I pour it in my heating oil tank.

If this is the cause of the problem I think we all learned something here, I was considering tossing the foam pre-filter on my truck I was wondering what it was for. Thanks for the follow-up and let us know how it goes.

I didnt see any prefoam filter but I didnt buy brand new either.

Couple days after bringing truck home I was installing my plow wiring so I had the bumper, grill and headlights off. I reached up inside the airbox for some reason and found the bottom of the filter very wet, saturated actually and thats when I notice the filter restriction tell-tale was almost maxed out. So I changed the filter but no foam. I havent checked the new filter since this knock issue came about since its been raining for days now.

I checked my new filter today and it did feel ever so slightly damp, barely noticeable though so I dont know. I DID see a foam insert in the airbox below the smaller section of air filter. Is this the foam that comes with northern state trucks?

I also drained off some fuel from the valve under the truck. At first glance it appears nice and clear with no noticeable water but im going to let it set overnight.

I turned the key on after buttoning things up and it sounded like air in there so am i supposed to follow a procedure for bleeding the air or will it handle things on its own?

you need to prime the system
turn the key and wait 10-20 seconds then turn the key to the off position and repeat a couple of times
