I posted before in the thread about what to use upfitter switches for and I said I was using a switch to shut off the reverse lights when backing up my 5ver at night. The lights are blinding from the reflection.
Some asked how I did it. Well I finally got around to it.
The connector for the reverse light wire is at the back passenger side mounted to the trailer hitch bracket beside the spare tire. Big grey connector.
Pin 7 green/brown.
The underside of the truck isn't the best spot to be splicing and cutting wires, but I can't find the wire anywhere else. I think I see it under the master brake cylinder, but impossible to get to.
I got a waterproof Bosch style relay and spliced 87a in line with the green/brown wire.
Grounded the relay to pin 1 or 11 (blue)
Ran a wire in split loam from an upfitter wire to the back along the passenger side (avoid the exhaust)
Now I can shut off the reverse lights with my upfitter 1.
subscribing, I added reverse lights to my 5th wheel and wonder if dropping them from the truck like this will kill them in the trailer, but would be worth a try as you're right, the reflection doesn't help backing at night.

Good point.
I have them on my trailer too. I haven't tested your theory yet.
But I do know on my 2012 I shorted out a trailer backup light and blew the "trailer reverse light" fuse. That's all the fuse was for.
I can only assume it's the same on the 17.
Plus, at the connector pin 7 coming in is a 14g. Pin 7 on the other half is a 18g going to the lights. I'm sure it's not making a pit stop at the 7 way trailer plug only being 18ga
I guess I should mention this was done on a Platinum with LED lights.
I don't know if the wiring is the same for non LED lights.
One would assume it is.
Thank you. I recently purchased a 2009 F350 SD with a 5th wheel hitch already installed. Still need to purchase a 5th wheel but it will be good to get this out of the way.
