Keep in mind the wiring I posted is for a 2017. I’m not sure if a 2009 would be the same.

The idea is the same though 🙂

Has anyone had luck in finding a reverse wire under the hood? I thought that I found it (same color) but when I ran a continuity test between it and the 7 pin trailer plug I didn't get a reading. Knowing that the pins aren't always activated till a trailer is connected makes me wonder if it is the right wire, but wouldn't show continuity unless the truck is in reverse or possibly a trailer connected?

A voltmeter or test light would be better.
When the truck is in reverse see if there’s 12v on the wire, and nothing when not in reverse.
I don’t think the reverse light pin on the trailer connector would part of the silly trailer connected first system.

Added my Rigid back up lights today. Thanks klassik for posting up the wiring info, it was very helpful.

I wired mine so they function with the factory lights when I put the truck in reverse but using a relay so the factory wire just activates a relay and doesn’t supply the power for them. I also wired in a second relay and used a diode so I can either turn them all off with upfitter #4 when backing up my 5th wheel, or turn them all on to use as work lights even with the key off using upfitter #5.

thanks again for posting up the wire location I needed to find, you definitely save me some time.

Awesome DrMatt.
I never thought about adding lights until Hollapm started talking about it in another thread. I wish I did it that way now.
Occasionaly the extra light would be helpful backing up and working when the truck is off.

How did you wire them in? Is the relay connected in the back near the spare tire or did you find a tap under the hood? Seeing that you used 2 relays, Im assuming the second relay is a 5 pin relay (one for upfitter #5) and the one to upfitter 4 is a standard 4 pin relay mounted in the back?

Much appreciated.

I used some heavy duty sealed 5 pin relays and a diode, but could have used tow 4 pin relays. I mounted the relays in the back near the plug klassic posted a picture of in the first post of this thread. I drew up a diagram before starting but I'm at work and it's at home so if you want I'll take a pic of it tonight and post it up. I cut the wire to the factory back up lights after that plug as that puts it in the tail light harness rather than cutting before the plug in the main harness, easier to replace if that ever became necessary.

Would love to see the diagram (and possibly pictures.) Tieing after the harness makes perfect sense.

Be hard to get a good pic of the install as it's all tucked up in the inside corner of the hitch but I'll see what I can do. It's going to just look like a jumble up in that corner now that it's all tied up i place.

Here’s the diagram of how I wired it with a dual in single out diode, and two 5 pin relays. It could also be done with two 4 pin relays, you would just need one to be a normally closed and the other to be a normally open.

Trying to make certain I'm reading this correctly. Seeing that you are using 87a pin, when the truck is in reverse or switch 5 is turned on (and switch 4 is off), the stock reverse lights turn on (you have the diode so there is no backfeed) . When you turn on switch 4 it activates the circuit so the lights turn off.

When the reverse lights are on, it activates the second relay which then turns on the rigid LED lights as well. So the rigid come on whenever the stock reverse are activated?

So if you put it in reverse and have switch 4 activated, the stock reverse lights will not turn on?

You are correct. When all switches are off, putting the truck in reverse activates all lights. When in reverse turning on switch 4 shuts off all back up lights so I don't get any glare when backing up my 5th wheel from the polished diamond plate aluminum on the front of it. Turning on switch 5 turns on all 4 lights to use as work lights with or without the truck running and no matter what gear it is in.

Reviving an old thread. This is great. I was looking to do something like this on my new F250 for the same blinding reasons when backing a fifth wheel in the dark. I have one question though, where did you get your constant power from going into relay#2? Did you run a wire with inline fuse all the way from the battery or did you tap in somewhere at the back? Or something else???

Anyone know of any concerns on the newer trucks where this might not work?

Thank you
J...

Also, where did you tap into the Reverse Light Feed?

Never mind. Figured that part out. All that happens between the 2 ends of the wire cut after the 20pin connector.
