Ive got a 2015 Platinum with about 38000 miles. I had no problems with the running boards until recently. I lived in North Dakota with it working through the snow, cold and ice. I have lived in Kansas for the last year. No trauma has happened to the pickup.
Both of them have deployed and will not retract. I can call up the in, out, off command in the setup menu but I cannot select any of the options. That is, it will not let me set them to in or off.
Has anybody ELSE had this problem? What did you do to cure it?
I am going to order up a new 2017 F350 Lariat on my next days off. I want to order the power-deployable running boards, my question is there a way to turn them off so that they don’t deploy when covered in ice or if buried in the mud up here in the Canadian north. I would hate to damage the running boards when in a situation that they won’t deploy because of obstruction.
Is there anyone that can shed some light on this situation for me?
Thanks in advance

In Canada, you can order the Lariat (base model), and add power deployable running boards without going to the Lariat Ultimate. I did this on my truck now on order and waiting...and waiting.
I love mine. They drop lower and farther out than standard, which makes my truck easier for my wife to enter.
There is a great added bonus. I can park my F450 in a tight space without fear. I just set the running boards to "out" when I park, saying "deploying the ding guards!" They stick out well past the doors, protecting them from most any car or truck front door.

Hmm, I hadn't thought to use them in that way. Reps sent.
Thanks for the input people. I ended up ordering a Platinum and have it now. I am happy with the running boards and the whole truck overall. Bad news 1700 km and got hit with hail. FML what's a guy to do.
I think the power steps are a great feature. Especially on the high-end so called luxury edition Super Duty trucks. Having said that, I also believe the power steps were not intended for use in regularly driven off-road conditions and I personally would not have them on a truck that is subjected to freezing weather and muddy conditions for extended periods.
I've read where a lot of drivers haven't had any freezing issues with having power steps so my opinion is just that and only a personal thought on the subject.
I've never even heard of them before I bought this truck. Glad I have them because fixed running boards or tubes get filthy and distract from the look of the truck. I like these up and out of sight when not in use.
I prefer the powered running boards as my truck has a 6" Lift and these deploy down farther than the static boards making it easier to get into the truck.
If you were to do that I would probably look at wiring it through the fuse, but only if the running boards had a fuse dedicated to just them. That way you could quickly return it to OEM.
Sorry this is a bit off topic but does anyone know if the factory power running boards can be added on to a lariat ultimate packaged truck after it's already built? My truck has a plug on either side of the truck in the running boards area that is not going to anything. It looked as if you might be able to simply plug the factory ones in and be done with it. Thanks!
