Power-Deployable Running Boards

I am going to order up a new 2017 F350 Lariat on my next days off. I want to order the power-deployable running boards, my question is there a way to turn them off so that they don’t deploy when covered in ice or if buried in the mud up here in the Canadian north. I would hate to damage the running boards when in a situation that they won’t deploy because of obstruction.
Is there anyone that can shed some light on this situation for me?
Thanks in advance

Yes you can. Using the left button on the steering wheel you can lock them up, down or auto.

Before you decide for sure, check out some of the F150 and Expedition forums. I live in snow and slush country too and after reading about the problems others have had with them after a few years, I've added them to my "must NOT have" list when ordering a truck.

Front mud flaps will keep the mud and snow off of them, for the most part.

Haven't had a problem with mine yet here in slushy NY.. They don't get the ice build up since they're tucked up against the body when retracted. And if for some reason they run into an obstacle while extending, they auto-retract, like a garage door. And it takes very little to cause that.. I was standing too close the other day when I opened my door and it bumped my leg. Barely felt it.

But yes, you can also go into the menu and turn them off or on depending on the situation.

We have them on my wife's '16 Expedition. I hate them. I'm forever getting whacked in the shins by them because I don't ride in it enough to get used to them.

I very much like my powered steps. It's like my truck welcomes me back by deploying the steps. I've had no problem with their operation except for the couple of times I was too fast for them and got whacked in the shins.

When recessed the steps make the truck look tall. It's nice to know they won't be in the way should I decide to crawl the truck over something like a small car.

Technically....you cannot lock them "down"....as they will come up if you go over 5 mph. You can put them "Out"...as to wash the truck....but again...not "locked" down.

I as told the power running boards were only available if you also have the ultimate package.
Can anyone confirm this ?

That is what I am seeing on the ford build site you can only order with the lariat ultimate package. I also went to a dealer and confirmed with a salesman.

I have a co-worker with a 2010 F150 who has them. He loves them and has had zero issues. He just sprays them with a hose during bad weather and lubes the pivot points.

Well i have them on my truck but i park it in a heated garage every night and the truck is dry the next day so i hope they last. Had them on the wife's 2012 Lincoln navigator and had to replace both of them after 3yrs of use and abuse the wife's truck is outside all winter and she's on the road a lot 100,000 miles in 4yrs we traded it in the fall for a Cadillac xt5

Up here in Spokane, Washington, we had one of our snowiest winters in recent years and I had zero issues with snow, ice or slush interfering with the power running boards. These are a great addition and im glad I got them. One of the best things ford did was offer these up.

There is no dedicate button just under options where you use the controls in your wheel. Mud flaps will help but not fully protect them.

They are covered under your warranty. And everyone thinks they are cool. My one gripe is they close to quickly when you go from drivers door to back to grab something. An extra 5 seconds before they close would save a lot of up and down.

I have them. I work in northern Canada in oil field. Chatch is the truck has not seen a full winter so not really sure how they will fair.
