Filter diagnosis

here is a picture of my fuel filter maybe 3,000 miles on it.



Long story short I originally thought my injector orings were going bad. After I thought about it more I thought maybe fuel tanks. I just replaced both front and rear (F26E). Could this be the coating on my tanks coming off and getting in there? Anyone else had this happen. Didn't really thing orings because the truck hasn't acted funny.

Do you add anything to your fuel, such as two-cycle oil?

No just diesel kleen. I am leaning towards the coating on the inside of the fuel tanks because it's a grayish/silver color.

Mine looked like that and it was injector orings. Not sure what color diesel clean is.

Was the fuel in your fuel bowl discolored or grey/black? Mine was clean fuel from what I could tell.

my fuel looked clean but the filter was dirty gray like that


O Rings are easy enough to replace with some time under the hood and can be had cheap from Alliant Injector O-rings - Ford 7.3L Powerstroke (94-03)

When my orings were bad, the filter was completely black, ace of spades black. That filter looks clean compared to what mine looked like.

replace filter and check in 3k miles and compare colors


Are you losing engine oil in those 3k miles? if no then maybe it is the tank coating


if you are using oil and have a scanner, check IPR% duty at cold vs hot if it jumps a lot higher hot then you could be having an o ring leak
