I actually bought a 1965 F100 with the small 240 cui engine and I' like to upgrade my braking performance in stage 1 by changing the standard braking shoes at the front end.
As there are a lot of marketing descriptions, such as "quick stop" *performance" "premium" etc. I'm uncertain wich one I should opt for best. Durability is not so important for me but braking performance. I'ld like to ask if anybody can pass a recommendation to me.
Muscle Car Brakes in Texas (Muscle Car Brakes) makes a ceramic shoe that is supposed to stand up to repeated heat cycling. I haven't been able to test them out yet, but I got a pair of the heavy duty backing plates from a 69-72 F100 that uses the 3" wide shoes. I also bought the larger 1 1/8" wheel cylinders to reduce pedal effort. They supplied heavy duty retracting springs as part of the kit.
Cheaper brake pads might be what you want. Some people trade durability for a bit of stopping power, the "premium" grades might last longer. "Racing" linings may need to get hot to work properly. You can also get brake shoes relined at a good brake shop. Talk to them and see what linings they offer. Pink linings are supposedly really good, haven't tried them. As always a good setup, adjustment, and bedding in makes all the difference. If you can find someone with a brake shoe arcing machine that will make for better braking from the git go.
