Found a 1997 F-350XL PSD Super Cab DRW Auto trans long bed for sale. Has 40,000 miles on it. Anyone know of any problems with this year model? Does this year model have electronic fuel injection?
NADA shows retail value to be $19000.
Think i can get it for $18000.
Sound reasonable?
No problems that I know of. Drove a 97 for 3 years(company truck) with no problems other than the dual mass flywheel went out at 105K. The truck you are looking at is an auto so you don't have to worry about flywheels. You may want to replace the fluid with synthetic, it will take the heat better. And yes, it has electronic injection.

There are two answers to your question. It's probably rated for a GCVW (gross comined weight rating) of 20000lbs. That means that your truck, cargo, and trailer comined can weigh as much as 20000 lbs. I'll guess your truck to weigh around 7000 lbs. By the time you fill the tanks, add a hitch, put people in there, and the stuff they take along, I'll guess you'll be close to 8000. That would leave 12000 for the trailer. That was the "legal" answer.
How much will it tow, really? There are a lot of guys towing 16000 to 18000 lbs regularly. There are reported legal issues if you get into an accident when towing that heavy, but the truck can/will handle it, and it will love it.
I have a '97, 350 and except for poor fuel mileage, 13 empty, 10 pulling a 4000# trailer, I like it..The tranny blew at 18,000 and I have 52,000 on it now..From what I understand, the transmission is the weakest link..I paid $26,000 for it in 2000..........Good luck.....
