starter staying engaged?
90 f150 5.0 4spd 4x4
Heres the story, truck runs great no mechanical issues, i wake up go to the store turn truck off for about 5 mins come out and turn it on & the starter stayed engaged, horrible grinding. Turn if off imedietly, put it in 2nd pushed it about a foot & same thing. Turn the key again & nothing. Pull starter, its shattered into pieces. Push start the truck and try to drive home to realise it now dies if i take my foot off throttle. Baby it home, replace starter & solenoid, ignition switch & lock&key cylinder. Same thing. Flywheel grinded a perfect track in starters teeth within seconds. Pull transmission to inspect clutch & flywheel, looks to be in good condition, replaced rear main while im at it.
What the hell could keep my starter in contact with flywheel even when the starter is not extended out?? And the dieing at idle, symptom of whatever happened?
Any ideas would be great!! Im lost for what to check next. There were never any shims on starter besides the small washers on bolts
