Burning oil

Hi all I have a 94 f350 4x4 5.8 and ever since a friend of mine did the oil change it's been burning oil I drove it the other day and the smell was very strong and smoke was pouring out from under the hood and it was just about empty and needed about 5 quarts of oil...there is no visible oil leak and ideas of what else I should be checking?

I would check the oil filter to make sure it's been installed properly. That's the most likely place a leak would get blown onto the exhaust system.

How long ago was this, and how much have you driven since the oil change? If you've been driving around a lot with low oil, you may have caused serious damage to your engine.

The oil change was done a little over a month ago and the truck has only been driven about 3 times since and all were short trips

Does this truck have an oil pressure gauge? If so, look for where the oil pressure sensor is mounted, usually right above the oil filter on an extension pipe. I've seen one case where the sensor leaked. and as it dripped while the engine was running, it would be blown onto the exhaust manifold. But it would also drip onto the oil filter.

If that's not where it's leaking from you will still need to find where it's actually coming from. You will obviously have to fill the oil again, run the engine so parts get hot enough to burn oil. Once you see smoke again, shut off the engine so the fan stops blowing the smoke around, and try to locate the source.
