393 Stroker Question

Planning on building my stroker, but am trying to find a piston/head combo that will give me the CR I'm looking for (9.0:1). I'll be going with a Scat crank, stock 351W rods, and 302 flattop pistons. Anyone know what the piston to deck clearance @ TDC comes out to with this combo?

393 Stroker Question

that depends on what modle block you use, and if the block has ever been cut, and it would be easier to determine what head you want to run and what cc chambers they have, dont let the bottom end determine the top end. pick your heads, know your chamber size and go from there, you can alway go with a custom or dished piston, and thicker or thinner head gaskets to determine your comp. ratio. 393 Stroker Question

Uh, I would stay away from using flattop 302 pistons in this engine. Using flattop pistons in a stock 351w gives you anywhere(depending on the head) from a 10:1 to 11:1 compression ratio. Going to 393 cubes is not going to help any, lol. Find out what year block you have(1969-1974 351w's has a slightly shorter deck , requiring shorter pistons), and KB has a piston for this application with a giant dish for reduced compression( part # KB364, 22cc dish, 9.5:1 compression with a 64cc head, 9.9:1 with a 60cc head, $269.00 at Flatlander racing).

393 Stroker Question

Guess I shoulda mentioned my block is the newer style (9.503" deck height, never been cut). lol I know I'll need some amount of dish in the piston, which is why I am trying to figure out what the piston to deck clearance @ TDC. Once I get that, I can use one of the calculators online to play with dish volumes and gasket thickness to get my perfered CR. I really want to stay at 9.0:1 or under so I don't have to run premium gas (especially with the cost of gas now!). I know I'll be giving up some power doing this, but its a trade-off I'm willing to accept.

393 Stroker Question

my goal on my motor is mid grade gas, 450HP, daily driven, 393 strocker were going late model block (tall deck), 3.85 strok crank stock lenght I beam rods, speed pro(302) flat tops with the coated skirts, AFR 185's 61 cc chambers emision leagle heads were cutting the block to leave .010 clearence on the deck, with the variuos thickneses in head gaskets, we should be able to get 9.5 - 9.8 to 1 comp.
