I would have been very happy to stay with my 2 1/2 inch and not have to re-tool my drawbar inventory. This being said the initiative to purchase an adjustable ball carrier (weigh safe 180) means eliminating several pieces of hardware which I would still have if the truck didn't have a 3 inch. The biggest advantage for my use is the additional strength and security when towing with a 30 inch extension due to the overhang of the slide in camper. The actual tongue weight applied is not so great but the torque applied to the hitch by the extension has long been recognized as the weak point in my set up. I am thankful for the 3 inch option.

I don't care either way, I'll just be upset if I have to send back my weight safe to exchange for the 2 1/2...

I must admit I did not think of your application. For your use the 3 inch is definitely a plus.

Happy Trails

Just got my job 2 SB HD 250. Didn't even pay attention to hitch being 2 1/2" or 3". I do remember seeing 2 sleeves in it though so would it be a 3"? I'll check it later

That would indeed mean it was 3" Blu. I'm glad for you but that opens up the question of what the heck is Ford thinking giving a truck rated for less a higher capacity hitch?

According to FORD..."On Paper"...the 250 HD short bed still gets the 3" hitch. So I bet ALL the short bed 250 HDs will have the 3" still.

Well, the SB HD 250 only comes one way so it would have to be all of them Ken. Still makes no sense from a rating standpoint though.

Okay Guys,

I had to run around this afternoon so I decided I would stop at every ford dealer during my travel to see what the receiver setups were on the F-250 & 350's that were available on the lots.

First truck I found with 3" receiver was a F-350 with a 6.7, 160" wheel base.

Second Truck I found was a F-250 with the 6.7 and the High capacity tow package, this did have a 3" receiver.

So from what I see on the lots... Standard f-250's without the high capacity tow package (which is only available with the 6.7) comes with a 2 1/2..
F-250's with the high capacity tow package comes with 3" receiver
F-350's with the 6.7 come with 3" receiver
I cannot confirm if a f-350 with a gas engine comes with a 3" or if you have a long bed because I could not find that on lots.

I cannot confirm if a f-350 with a gas engine comes with a 3" or if you have a long bed because I could not find that on lots.

The 350 you checked was job 1. For job 2, the 3" is gone on short bed 6.7 SRW 350's. It's been confirmed by those with job 2 350's...

The only thing that wasn't confirmed was the job 2 short bed HD 250 which has now been confirmed as well.
