On my f250 when ever I'm going down the road and pass someone or speed up and let off the gas sometimes it'll put the transfer case into neutral from 2h. So I have to pull off to the side of the road turn it off and put it into 4h and start it then with that tension put back into 2h and get back on. My wheels are out of balance and motor mount needs to be replaced waiting for the money now and will do that but would that cause that problem or what should I be looking at
My 79 does the same thing and all my mounts are fine and it's married. If yours acts like mine it's so wore it's hard to tell where each gear is. I usually have to play with it a few times to get it to stay in 2wd. I can usually hear it trying to pop out before it does. Once I get it stays for months without issues. Out of the 3 205's we have it's the weirdest one.
The Dana 24 in my 1970 f-250 would occasionally do this also. It's a result of worn detentes on the shift rods.
I replaced the -24 with a 205 which I rebuilt before install. Rebuild kit came with new ball bearings and springs for the detentes. So far it is operating correctly.
