Well I just made a new record on the fuel mileage for my 93 4.11 gear ratio 4X4 e4od crew cab long bed f350 with the 460. I got a whopping 13.2 miles per gallon. This was a combo of highway, city, and a short amount of 4x4 roads. The truck is mostly stock besides a larger exhaust pipe, although the cat is still there due to emissions. I have changed all the filters and done a general tune up. This is in colorado running 85 octane gasoline. Everything runs fine and the truck has no codes or anything. This was mostly driving with a few dirtbikes in the bed. Also one other thing to add, I am running royal purple 5w-20 synthetic oil which I think really helped the fuel mileage increase. I am curious to hear your guys best fuel mileage with the 460 or even other trucks you have.
I think 13 would be my record....low. Pulling about 12K, a bread-box race car trailer full of my friend Dee's worldly possessions down to Crackford. 'Course, this is with a PSD 5-speed 3.55s. Most recent run in the same truck was 21 on the dot, aprx. 70% highway, winter diesel, including some warm-up idling and a little snow.
Yoiks, they refine 85 octane gaso? I think the lowest available around here is 86, and that's the off-off-brand stuff. Only gaso I buy anymore is 92-93 premium no-corn for the chainsaws, etc.

Out here in Colorado regular 85 octane isn't actually the flex fuel. Were just able to run a lower octane fuel due to the higher elevation. Some people report pinging, but it seems to be fine to me.

Yea never running much under 5k feet it just doesn't pay to run anything higher. Cylinder pressure is lower, detonation is less prevalent. People always talk about mountains killing fuel economy but the highest mpg trip I've ever had was Gunnison to Denver. Perfect weather, at 11pm, slight tailwind. The MAF meter knows the air is thin, fuel is trimmed to keep AFR correct. No power but oh well. My 96' 5.8L broke the 20mpg mark on that trip, total anomaly but conditions were perfect. More typical was 17mpg. Similar weather & speeds in MN I was lucky to hit 15mpg. That was all back when it was bone stock, with little tires.
