I have a 2002 F250 XLT 4x4 crew cab short bed. Many people I have spoken to are getting 15mpg or more with no load. I am only getting about 10 or 11 around town. With diesel prices like they are I could really use the extra 4mpg. The truck has about 155000 miles. It starts and runs great. No problems whatsoever. Stock tires. Anyone got any thoughts?

That's a LOT low. I'm averaging about 15mpg around town and if I feather it on a long highway trip (60 or 65mph on cruise), I've gotten 20mpg. Now...the stupid question.....and don't take offense......Do you have fresh oil, and a good filter (oil and air)?......That's been known to make a 2 or 3mpg difference. Proper air pressure in the tires?.........Underinflated, and the mileage really deteriorates......Also, the "egg-between-the-foot-and-gas-pedal" analogy from Strokin-It is good advice. I know that this is novice type advice, but I'M the biggest culprit when it comes to forgetting to check oil level, tire psi, etc.. My truck is a mirror image of yours (it's a 2000), albeit with a lot lower mileage (52000), but a 150K properly-maintained 7.3L should be in young adult-hood at 150K.
Also did you average this out over a couple tanks cause every time i fuel up I get different millages for a tank and I mean a good diference like 11 to 16 mpg. This is coming from the same station. To me yours seems kinda low cause im a little heavy on the pedal and over all I say I average 13 in town. Wal Mart sales something called Power Service Diesel Fuel Supplement and it is pretty cheap for as long as it last and I have had good luck with it.
filter has about 6000 on it... good diesel I think. I also run standadyne about avery other tank
Standyne(DFA=Diesel Fuel Additive) is good stuff especially their Performance formula. Winterized diesel will lower your mileage.Good clean motor oil helps. The
new blue CPS is apparently improving mileage. Installing a tranny shift kit may help.

Around town, probably 13, highway 15-16. Winter fuel stinks. What size are your stock tires just out of curiosity?
I have had my 99' for 3 years now. For the first 2 1/2 years, I averaged 20 with a high of 25. Lately and it has dropped to 15-17. Could be the desiel. One stations is 12 cents cheaper than others, but doesn't move the desiel that quickly. Probably should try the truck stop to see if it makes a difference.
