i followed the instruction in the link posted above its seems to run better
and the choke was not set correctly
also being that its a clone there is no "V" on the fast idle cam
so the truck seems better i took it 20 miles got it good and warm seems like the choke was a part of the prob will see in the morning on cold start
does anyone have a pick of the crank and cam from the front with the thing at tdc so i can see where the key is located mabey i can rule out or confirm a spun balancer
you have to love old veterans they have learned and been through everything
my neighbor 4 or 5 houses over saw me under the hood trying to figure my timing out
he came over and fixed my lack of knowledge
i guess the 4.9 is just a tractor motor in a truck body
he took the oil cap off # 1 plug out
had me spin the crank from below while he watched the # 1 valves open and close and push his finger off the hole
1 more time around he said .... then stop right there
i got out the light and looked at the damn timing mark 2 before on the little line
holy god i am impressed i told him
he popped the cap off and its pointing way off the whole thing is way out of timing
and he notice the plug wires are moved 1 position out of normal on the cap so i see a 4 on my cap its really # 1
wife called me for dinner so after ill report back
Distributor was 180 out? Very common. The distributor doesn't care so long as the proper firing order is maintained. When a distributor is installed, it can be a pita for some peeps to get lined up. So they move the wires instead.
Engine is drawing 20" steady manifold vacuum at 500 to 600 RPM, that's good. Timing should be close to optimal for pump gas.
