I was advised by my mechanic to run cetane booster in my 2005 SD because of the fuel changes over the years. What is the thought of using them in our new 2017 trucks? I have enough to last six months or so and it only takes about 15cc's per tank. But with the new trucks made for the fuel available today is it still a good idea to use it or not? Thanks for the comments.
This seems to be a discussion topic that will endure the ages. It has been discussed on here and general concencious seems to be can't do any hard but very Little Rock solid proof it helps. Some seem to think to much can also cause issues.
I run it mainly for the antigel properties. During the summer I do not bother about it unless have bottles around. Seems like a mileage may very topic now a days.
I run the Ford pm22 in every other tank just to give the injectors a little extra lubrication, as a bonus, going by the trip calculator, on tanks that have it in there I typically see about 1mpg increase but that is not super accurate anyway. Bottom line if you want to help protect the fuel system then use it but if you are thinking using it for increased fuel economy you probably won't see the results you are looking for.
Fords recommendation is higher than the lowest cetane on the market so I'd say it's based on where you get your fuel from. If you're on the road often it would be good to take with you. It's cheap compared to repairs.
PM22 every other tank. Cheapest at the dealer FYI. I bought a 1 gallon bottle and I fill one of the single treatment bottles for the correct measurement.
I generally have been running some Power Service, either white or gray bottle depending on time of year in my trucks for many years. I can't say if it does anything but gives me some added piece of mind especially during cold spells. I've run all kinds of additives over the last 15 years I've owned diesels, like I said just a piece of mind thing, have no empirical evidence of it doing or not doing anything for me.

Exactly. I run an additive too for extra lube. I have no idea if it does anything. But I do not put many miles per year on my truck, so cost really is not that much of an issue.
I readily admit that it could all be snake oil. For that reason, I would never tell anyone that they need it or even that they should consider using it.

Thanks for the tip. I didn't know you could buy it in 1 gallon bottles.
