Been looking an older original Ford. Found a nice 1963 Falcon. Seller thinks the engine is original, but rebuilt. Looks like air cleaner has a 200 decal on it. How can I tell? I'm finding pics of red and blue engines also. I'd like more information before I drive 3 hours to look at it!
Thank you the quick response. I was searching the net for some information. I knew someone on this site would have some. I wasn't sure if it would be appropriate to ask about a car on the site. The seller did say the engine was rebuilt and the air cleaner was not original. He has the the car stored at a site not near him. What about the red versus blue engine color?
The car also has the rear view mirror the front fender??
That's a C2OZ-17696-A mirror.
The dealers installed all the outside mirrors on the doors or front fenders, depending on where the customers wanted them..
Some people preferred the mirrors on the front fenders, because if installed on the doors, may limit the distance the vent windows could be opened.
I used to work with the world's worst new car get ready man! Would install mirrors on the doors without giving a hoot about where the vent window was.
Another time, he installed side mouldings on a 1967 Mustang...below the scallop line instead of on the scallop line. Looked awful!
Customer hit the roof, dealer (Ralph Williams Ford) had to fill in all the holes then repaint the sides of the car, then reinstall the mouldings correctly.
Thanks, I'm going to let the seller know later today whether or not I will make the trip tomorrow morning. I want something original, that's why the engine pic concerned me.
Well I let the seller I will not be going to check out the car until he knows more about the engine. In the meantime I just found a nice 1961 2 door one town away. I don't know how long its' been in storage but we hav'nt had red registration stickers for many, many years.

1960/63 Falcon/Comet had a black plastic antenna base that was notorious for breaking.
So, in the mid 1970's, a pal and I decided to reproduce it...sold about 50, had several 100 left over. Pal now owns a Mustang resto shop, probably still has them.
You can use a 1965/68 Mustang or 1969/74 Econoline antenna, but the bases of these vehicles are chrome steel, won't fit the Falcon fender. So you'll need one a these bases.
'Course by now, the Falcon antenna may be reproduced.
1962/63: Lee Iacocca changed the 2 door roofline (ala Thunderbird) on a certain model, then put a vinyl roof on it. "The Deuce" took a look, said it was like putting falsies on grandma!
IIRC, the Ford sixes were red in those years, the blue didn't come along until later.
I would love to make a project out of a two door wagon in that era, put some insane small block in it.
I believe the Maverick was the replacement for the Falcon. The Granada was supposed to replace the Maverick in 1975. The Maverick was selling like hotcakes, so Ford kept it for two more years, making the Granada into a mid-size luxury car.
So long as the price is right so you can drop in a small block.
As for the rollback setup, you would be better off looking for that setup in the f-super duty (f450) of the era. They're a lot more truck and would handle that much better.Better gearing, larger brakes & 4 wheel disc, hydroboost brake system.
