I have some hard rust in this area. I have a parts truck with no rust in this area, but it has a dent along one whole side.Has anyone repaired rust in this area? How hard to take a section off the white truck about an inch down from the rust and weld it onto the other truck bed? Has anyone replaced quarters? Does anyone have pictures how all this goes together right at this area? Thanks
I have never played with the box sides of a styleside but there are welded with the floor and bulkhead. Not much help in that answer I know. Why not just swap the whole box?
I believe the three pieces of the side of the bed are all welded together at that seam. The upper bed rail, the lower-outer panel (qtr panel), and the lower-inner panel. I assume this is a spot welded joint and not real easy to take apart.
Of course I've never taken one apart so I may be wrong
I believe there are only 2 pieces to that panel the top and the inside are all one piece and the outside is spot welded to it. If you flip the bed upside down you could drill out those spot welds. But would it be worth the effort. This is a picture of one I mined some sheet metal out of.
You could probably get it from the top with a right angle drill and a spotweld cutter. Just depends how much work you want to put into fixing the bed vs using another one. What exactly is wrong with the bed?
The sides of the bed on this truck are straight. It has rust here. Seems kinda deep. Can it be sanded and covered with a rust preventer?
This is the inside. Cut out with a torch.Cut through the supports and the back under the tailgate. The donor truck is complete. It has rust in the bed, but no rust in that crack. It has several dents and one that runs front to back and top to bottom on the passenger side.I am just weighing all my options. I have a piece of diamond plate I can use on this truck.

It is tough to tell how deep the rust is in that photo. It is possible to use a spot sandblaster to get the rust out and then use Rust Mort to prevent it from coming back

That's kind of what I was thinking. If you blow holes through when you blast it then it's on to plan B.
As far as the other bed, a good body man may be able to take those dents out with a few hours work. Maybe something else to look in to.
This is true. A body man once told me dents are easier to take care of than rust. I also get a kick out of what you Americans call rust... no offence intended.

I live in PA, I generally only consider it rust if there are holes through to the other side
Thats why I opted to buy a West coast truck.
