License plate

Does anyone know the law for displaying an original year license plate on your vintage vehicle?

Better check your state law. Some do, some don't.

In Illinois if you have Antique Plates for your vehicle, you are allowed to display a correct year-model plate (in my case a 1948 truck plate) on the vehicle if you have the antique plates in the truck with you, and have registration and insurance cards. Not sure about other states.

Connecticut is the same way. Need to find a license plate that has the marker plate for the year of your vehicle. I found one on Ebay for $45 shipped. Just have to go to the DMV and have them infect it and put the new number in the system. But also need to keep the standard plate with you.

Do a search of your local DMV site.

I searched my Missouri DMV rules. I had to verify the plate to make sure the number wasn't being used already. I don't have a regular plate, I just have my YOM plate. In Missouri YOM plates are treated just like Antique plates. You are limited on mileage and usage.
Good news in Missouri is I never have to have it inspected or renewed. That saves on those yearly renewal fees.

The guys are absolutely correct it depends on your state. This is my thread on Connecticut from when I registered my truck: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...nnecticut.html

You don't say what state you're trying to register, so check your state laws.
In AZ you are allowed Year Of Manufacture as long as the number/letter combo is not already registered. It is treated as an antique plate.

Same understanding, plus am I correct that we don't even have to register the YOM plate number with the SOS? If that's right it makes it easy. Only issue I might face on my '51 project truck when it's done is that it's titled as a '52. So I'd be safest having it wear '52 plates. Stu

In KY we can display an original YOM or a replica of that year as long as we keep the antique plates in the vehicle have it insured. One time fee only
