Does anybody know of an alternative to BedRug carpet bedliner? Building my 1994 Lightning for car shows and from experience, Bedrugs make car shows ALOT easier with kids!
Have to admit...never heard of a BedRug. Had to look that one up. Damn nice looking although as you stated, car show stuff. Seems to be a ton of it out there. One thing I have learned...you get what you pay for when it comes to quality.
Oh I would love to find a bedrug brand but they stoped making the 1973-1996 short wheel base f150 rug. My 3-year old son got a heart transplant a little over a year ago so he can't go to rivers or lakes and so we're getting my old lightning rebuilt and gonna start going to car shows and drag strips. The bedrugs are awesome for hanging out and are no where near as hot in the summer. I'm about to just try and make one myself.
Looking at the bedrug website I see you can order a 4x6 sample of their material. That may help you with making one yourself. I also wonder if you could take measurements of the truck bed and ask if they could make the primary parts and you do some trimming for wheel wells, etc. I hope your son is doing well. Best of luck with this project.

Thank you! I talked to the VP of sales from bedrug and asked why they would discontiue a product that covers such a huge range of trucks! He said they didn't sell at least 30 a year so they cancelled it. Seems crazy to me with all the 70's models being restored now.
i found a few universal mats that just cover the bottom and a guy on NLOC built one out of a few of them. I'm probably gonna try it
Keep us posted on your progress. I'm sure others will benefit from what you can share. I would be interested if I were much younger but being in the back of a truck at my age makes no sense. Ha. I am planning on getting a spray in liner soon, probably LineX.

Will keep my eyes open and if I see anything close I will PM!
Just an idea. Why not make your own? You could go to homedepot and find some nice outdoor carpeting (not that green astroturf crap from the 70s). Take measurments and create a template. Then carefully cut it to fit. You could then take it to an upholstery shop and have them sew on a fringe around the outside of it cover the cut edge. You could even use regular carpeting really. Basically anything you wanted. Either that or marine carpeting from a boating supply store.
And if you want it flat to cover the flutes in the bed like the actual BedRug, buy a rubber drop in mat and glue the carpet to it.
