Cool Truck Bed

Hello To All . I'm Looking For A Truck Bed For A 2006 F-150 ( 8 Ft. ) Preferrably White . My Neighbor Decided To Teach Her 16 Yr. Old Daughter To Drive Her Car Without A Driving Permit & The Mother Has No Insurance . Well To Make A Long Story Short , She Took Out The Right Quarter Panel Of My Truck , Continued On To Total A 92 Toyota Corolla & Her Own 1998 Toyota Avalon . Police Wouldn't Take A Report Cause It Is On Private Property. What Do You Advise On This Matter ? She Works Three Days A Week As A Bartender & Claims If I Sue Or Try To Guarnish Her Wages That She Will Just Quit Her Job ??????????????????

Sorry man. Big bummer!

That's what they make uninsured motorist insurance for. Don't suppose you have that coverage, huh?

Good luck.

Ahhh, for one, you need to talk to YOUR chief of Police. They should take a report and hand out citations appropriately. For one, reckless endangerment, or operating a vehicle without a license, failure to maintain appropriate liability insurance, etc. If they resist reminded them that they are civil servants and then take it up with your local district attorney and city government.

I would try to reach an equitable agreement with them. If they are just stone walling you you're going to have to sue. Even if she quits she'll still have to get a job eventually.

Actually, uninsured motorist insurance is a scam. Your basic collision coverage will cover this as well. Just pony up your deductible. I'd still sue.

ditto on the cops. They maybe can't issue a citation for the accident itself, but they can for failure to carry insurance.

I'd file under your insurance and let them go after her. They have the resources to do this moreso than you do.

How is Uninsurred Motorist Insurance worthless?

the entire premise is so you can get your vehicle fixed and it only cost your either nothing (depending on your company) or just the deductible. the Ins. company is then supposed to extract the fee from those at fault

Agreed on uninsured motorist insurance. And the difference on using your collision insurance is the deductible and the whether it counts against your insurance rating or not. Unfortunate to have to consider carrying, but not a scam in my book.

Any collision insurance you carry covers uninsured drivers. My wife got hit by someone without insurance and all we had to do was pony up the deductible. They say they go after the person to get your deductible back but I don't think they are very worried about it. I have been waiting a 1 and 1/2 and still no repayment.

The police have an obligation to cite her for both the accident and for driving with no insurance. And, if the girl had no license and was driving, she is driving without a license. The police will tell you they do not have to do this because it is on private property, but they do as there was significant damages. Tell them you are going to the District Attorney and see how fast they respond!

That just the point, you can pay extra for the Uninsured Motorist insurance(UMI) policy and still have to pay a deductible, Or not have the extra uninsured coverage and still use the regular collision to cover the fact that an uninsured motorist hit you. Your just paying an extra premium for no real additional coverage.

Living in Houston with all the illegal aliens driving around I used to carry UIM. Then, I hired an ex-insurance agent into my project. She informed me that its just a ploy to get a few extra $$$ a month out of customers. I immediately called my agent (Farmers at the time) and asked what would happen if an uninsured motorist hit me and I didn't have the extra UMI coverage. She told me I would be covered under my regular collision coverage...just pay the deductible. I then asked why have the UMI at all...only benefit is that you can elect to have a different deductible, such as $1K on the collision and $500 on the UMI. If I recall the UMI was costing me $20/month so I cancelled it...

If it is not too late, take plenty of pictures.

Next: Go back to the police. I'll go out on a limb and say she at one time or another, she was on a road, street, alley, some right of way controlled by the city, county or state. That makes it the job of the Police. They need to do thier job and cite her.

She needs to be cited for 1) driving without a license and Mom needs to be cited for 1) allowing an unlicensed driver to operate her vehicle, 2) no insurance and possbily 3) contributing to the deliquency of a minor.

Sue her and get the garnishment on record. Tell her if she quits her job, the garnishment will follow her to her next job. She needs to be an adult and pay her bills.

Everytime she gets into her car to drive somewhere, I'd be on the phone to the police about an uninsured driver on the road.

Police reports don't fix damaged vehicles. Thats why we pay 1000's a year for automotive insurance. In just about every state the police do not investigate crashes that occur on private property because it is private! It is civil in nature (between two or more persons) not involving the state. The only reason police reports are taken on "public" roads is because it is a public matter (involving a state maintained road). Many police departments have adopted policies that forbid the taking of police reports for "insurance purposes." Police reports are taken for investigative purposes to assist with the prosecution of a crime. In additon, their are very few traffic laws that apply to private property. Reckless driving is usually an offense that can be charged on private property. However, most judges will laugh a cop out of his court room for charging a juvenile for RD on private property.

Contact your insurance company. That is why you have insurance!

Gee whiz, really? But broken cars get fixed with an unbiased and confirm-able POLICE report of the occurrence. Most insurance companies REQUIRE a report so that there is no evidence of impropriety on claim. Good to know that the men in blue in VA get to take it easy. Things work a little different here in the Lone Star State. Hell, it would take two hands to count the number of times a cop has cited me on private property for moving violations and just plain ol' off roading.

To the orginal poster: have you checked out the local (and not so local) salvage yards? You might get lucky.

If I had to write a six page report (our state report is now six pages) everytime a blue hair baked into a car at Walmart we would have to triple the number of officers we have. All insurance companies require that the crash be reported to the police. I hear this all of the time, "my insurance company requires a police report." I just say, "I don't work for your insurance company." We just give out "incident numbers" that confirm that the person called the police.
