Knock & Cackle

I see these two words interchanged with each other a lot, not so much here but on other sites. I started out in the 7.3 diesel world back in 1999 when I purchased a 99 F250 Super Duty so I don't have as much time with this motor as a lot of you. I do remember very well back sometime between 2000 and 2005 there was a vast amount of discussion about engine knock and cackle, the emphasis being they were two different things. The knock was related to fuel feed to #8 injector plus a bunch of other stuff to make it simple, the knock could only be heard at idle. Engine cackle happened at 1800 to 2000 rpm while driving as I recall. So, one only at idle and the other while driving. They may be related to each other but they are not the same.
Am I right or am I just being my regular OCD self? I really don't have anything to prove here, it's just that I clearly remember these two things being different especially the knock.

No expert here, but I think that a knock would be something in a loose injector (or worse) and cackle is generally an air in fuel condition.

I'm with Hydro on this. I have to believe the knock would be injector related or simply a surge of lubrication issues and/or a failing bearing, until oil pressure is increased. The cackle is starvation. Be it a rail or a starving injector. Kinda like when a baby cries when it's hungry. When you feed it, it goes away.

A loose huei injector can change injection timing, delaying fuel injection, reducing cc's injected, causing lean condition for that cylinder.
