Posting for a buddy he has a 02 7.3 no mods and has a intermitting injector knock we just changed UVCH's and all injectors or pumping oil real good we have not had a chance to put a fuel pressure gauge on it yet what else would make one knock.
Due to the dead head system, number 8 has a tendancy to knock in a stock setup, i hear mine all the time sadly. Riff raffs FRX and hpx systems seem to eliminate this from my understanding, these are my next mods.
I just went through this with my 01 with 300 miles on a Ford rebuilt motor. The #7 injector would make an awful racket after the truck heated up and was running at idle. I was able to locate the cylinder with a stethoscope in a matter of seconds. The tech used a break out box to confirm which injector. The dealership/warranty process was to check the fuel pressure from the electric pump, then do a compression check and finally replace the injector. They replaced the injector under warranty and it works like a champ. Part of their concern was that it might be rod knock, apparently it was not.
This truck had a eng put in about a year ago and ran perfect up till last week. at idle about every 10to20 sec. you hear the knock and driving down the road it will cut out like you let off and hit the go pedal real fast

Thanks Mike
If it's an injector knock bumping up the fuel pressure should help. I had a knock on my truck when I bought it but did not show up when looking at it. Bumping up the fuel pressure cured it. Try Clay's FRX (the frx bumps up the fuel pressure from stock). In tank mods are also a good idea. Link under Guzzle in my signature.
