So I'm gonna pull out the bat and beat a dead horse I guess but here goes. I have a 2016 f150 doesn't have 10000 miles in it yet but some nice gentlemen decided to break in our peaking lot at work an knock out several peoples windows including my passenger front and rear windows. When they broke the back one it landed on the plastic door panel and scratched it up. Is there any way to fix these scratches that anyone has tried. Thanks in advance guys. Pics added
I'm not sure if any of the do it yourself kits are any good. I had a car that was in an accident a few years ago. The body shop sent the door panels and center console out to a local auto glass & interior place. They did a nice job of fixing them up.
Maybe when you are getting the windows fixed you can ask them for a quote?
If you are turning the windows in for insurance, tell them about the door panels too. Years ago I had someone break into a truck and they ripped the seat while do whatever it was that they were doing in the truck. Insurance covered it all.
For the solid plastic parts, I would try something like Acetone or Lacquer Thinner to blend the scratches out. Try it somewhere hidden first to make sure it works, and that is doesn't make the finish worse.
If it looks ok in a hidden spot, just place a drop on the scratch and let it air dry (takes a few seconds), and the scratch should be blended out.
It's possible that the plastic is very chemically resistant, and Acetone would do nothing but merely clean it; but chances are the Acetone will help blend the scratches out.
For the painted plastic, try looking for a paint that matches, and just touch it up.
Thanks guys I've already claimed the windows on insurance long story short I didn't think about claiming panel I was working 7 12s it was raining almost everyday and I just wanted glass back in before the whole back seat got ruined. I think I'll go with the new panel route and just make it all new again. Thanks for y'all's advice.
Submit a supplement claim to the window claim... the insurance should cover it.
This ^^^ There is really no reason your insurance company cannot amend/append the claim. You've presumably already paid the deductible. Get the rest fixed too. Thats why we carry insurance, right?
