Dumb new guy question

I'm sure this is a dumb question but asking for a little pity! Just bought 2016 with the 6.2. First 3/4 ton truck we've had, needed better payload and tow cap for camper. I'm sure it will do the job but still figuring some stuff out. Its XLT trim if that matters.

Question is on front locking hubs. The two settings are auto and locked. Seems logical I'd want to stick with auto but when should I consider locking them? I've got the **** style shift on go in the cabin, with the hubs on auto I can still engage the 4wd, right?

I'm sure the owners manual spells this out but a) I'm waiting for it to come - forgot to get from dealer 3hrs away, and b) the manual doesn't always tell me real world use of various features We potentially have some decent snow on the way in next 24-48 hrs, want to be sure everything is set right.

thanks in advance

Auto is what you want to use. The lock feature is there in case of a vacuum system failure on the auto system. You can still just manually lock them in if that fails. Enjoy your rig!

You can always just manually lock them for peace if mind. I lock mine at the beginning of winter and leave them locked until the snow is gone. Just a personal preference.

It's kind of like the manual shifting feature of automatic transmissions in that it's something you can do if you want to, but don't have to.

Thanks, figured it would probably be something like that given its a fairly well equipped truck (no king ranch type luxury but still nice!) - just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing some quirk that is needed with SD type trucks.

appreciated!
