I can move the input shaft up and down maybe an 8th of an inch. This means I should replace the bearing right? Seams like a dumb question I know. Tranny P/N is C9TA 7003 AAFL67. Thinking it came out of a early 70's car.
Thanks for the info. P.O. said they got the Engine (240) out of a car, and replaced the 3 speed with a four speed. Just assumed they got the tranny out of the same car. Anyway, I'm looking for the plastic inserts that go on the shifting forks. Any help would be appreciated. I guess it's normal to have some play in the shaft.

1965/72 Galaxie/LTD: Standard equipment engine was the 240 1V I-6.
These 240 I-6 cars came with either the C4 A/T or the Ford type 3.03 3 speed manual (3-on-the-tree).
