Engine light on, trouble code tells me its EGR Problem. Installed new EGR valve and the light still come on. While on the FWY an 60mph or higher the light goes off. Drop below 60 and the light comes back on.
If anyone could point me in the right direction would be helpful. I have been told that the tube(metal)that connects to the exhaust(I think)could be clogged.
I have vacuum lines on the brain this week (just posted some pics of my hose replacement), but is it possible you have a vacuum line break between the EGR and the vacuum solenoid that controls it? I see you have a 92, and if it has old vac lines they could be disintegrating.
An easy check would be to unplug the original EGR vac line at both ends and substitute a few feet of new hose. 5/32in ID ought to work.
It would help to know what year/model/engine truck you are working on.
Please list the code by number and when it was displayed. When displayed means during the Key On Engine Off tests, Key On Engine Running tests, or from stored codes (aka Continuous Memory).
I had this problem once. Vacuum leak was causing insufficient vacuum to open the EGR valve. Problem was the vacuum reservoir leaking. That's that big coffee can mounted on the right wheel well. You can get them on EBAY. BTW it's a lot easier to localize a vacuum leak if you release the tensioner and pull the belt. You won't believe how quiet an engine is without the fan and all those auxiliaries running.
