On my last bearing hand packing lube, and inspection I found 2 spun bearing races, I have learned over the years that it's not a good idea to just rely on the easy lube axles to replace regular maintenance.
With the size of these fifth wheel and tt rv's getting nowadays and the fact that they are mostly unregulated behemoths, safety is becoming more and more essential, to loose a wheel due to lack of maintenance isn't just an annoyance but could be a deadly occurrence.
While I replaced mine after the first season, they will again be replaced this year with all new US made Timken's along with an upgrade to the 6K size (lots more suspension parts to be replaced as well). The 'budget' bearings offered by most suppliers such as etrailer just don't look right plus my OEM 'budget' bearings showed signs of overheating after 5000 miles. 12mos/12K miles for inspection according to Dexter. E-Z Lube is a laugh with my Zerks covered by hub caps so I don't get tempted.
Dave do you have a part number for the Timken 6k size bearings. I'm planing a trip to Alaska this summer and would be interested in them. Thanks Darrell

Yep, sure do have those cup and cone numbers;
Inner combo = 25280/25520
Outer combo = 15123/15245
The seal is usually a # 10-36
You can also find a 'kit' for each of these bearings - cup and cone - but I don't have the numbers handy. It's usually a buck or two cheaper.
Thanks Dave. Picked up new bearings and seals yesterday. Packed and installed today. should be good to go. Supplier liked i had the numbers as he couldn't find them.
What brand wheel bearing grease are you guys using? I started off being referred to Red n Tacky, but that changed last year to Red #2 Lithium Grease High Temp, per recommendation.
I just did mine with the Red #2 Lithium High Temp wheel bearing grease from O'Reilly (I think it's branded Master Pro), which met all of the specifications in the Lippert axle owner's manual.
If you dig into the Dexter website, you will eventually find a list of their recommendations(their website got confusing a while back) https://www.dexteraxle.com/resources/manuals and page 6 on the .pdf. I'm using Mystik JT-6 High Temp #2 (Citgo) and usually find it at Tractor Supply
Changed this year and am using a Lucas X-TRA #2-perfect for High Temp-High Speed Bearings-Water Resistance-Extreme Pressure they say. Has a good feel, hope it works as they say. Darrell
I have been using Mystik for my construction equipment including a G943A Telehendler, its good stuff, I am going to use it on the trailer bearings next time.
