New source for "key on" power?

I have a 1978 F250 and I've slowly been adding more things to it like an electric fuel pump and such that require a 12v key on source for power. I don't want to keep tapping in to the factory fuse panel though and have it looking like a mess. I am not an electrical guru so I figured I would come here and ask if someone could point me in the right direction on what to do. A separate fuse panel?

I would add a aux fuse block like this under the hood over on the fender near the battery.

Amazon Amazon

I would power the fuse block with one of these relays.

Amazon Amazon

I would use one of these bolted to the battery terminal to power the relay.

Amazon Amazon

You can then run one small wire from the relay into the cab and to the fuse box. When you turn the key on, power will flow from the fuse box out and activate the relay. The relay will then pass current from the circuit breaker to the fuse block.

Would that be able to power some gauges, fuel pump, power to activate the relay for my cooling fan, etc?

Yes, you would have 40 amps total to work with. Gauges are a very small load. Fuel pump is a medium load. The fan relay would be a very small load, since you are only going to trigger the fan relay, the fan relay will be hooked directly to the battery also correct? It does all the work to run the fan.

The trigger wire for the new relay that runs the new fuse box can be very small, it doesn't require much power to run the relay.

Keep an eye on everything you hook up as far as how many amps or watts it uses. That will determine what size fuse you need, what size wire you need, and you can't go over 40 amps if there is a chance everything will come on at once.
