My boss asked about buying my truck from me an 09 5.4 crew cab. It would then be my company truck. I'd have to turn around and buy one for myself. What years and motor combo seem to have the least amount of issues? I know it's a crap shoot ,they all have some. I need to tow my 6500+ pound boat on occasion. My 5.4 does great even through the mountains. I'm sure the newer motors are better. I can't afford new. Hopefully 2012-2015. Thanks in advance
I really think that it's the luck of the draw. There are plenty of 2011's running around with a lot of trouble free miles on them. I had one myself. And there are way too many "NEW" cars in truck in shops all of the time.
From what I've heard, the '15 trucks had a lot of quality control issues, mainly fit and finish. My 2012 has been great! I have the 3.7 V6 which won't be enough for your needs, but overall the truck has been very good! I wouldn't hesitate to get a 2012-'14 5.0. From everything I'm hearing from those who own the 5.0, it actually gets slightly better fuel economy than my 3.7.
