7.3 Powerstroke Questions
Hey everyone I am new to the diesel owning world and had a couple of question. I have a 1996 Powerstroke with the 4.10 gears and automatic transmission.
1) When towing what typical RPM ranges are you running at highway speeds and what is your engine operating temps.
2) I am looking at a tuner and EGT gauge and was wondering what the correlation was between engine temp vs EGT?

1. Depends on how much weight your towing, the weather, the wind direction, what gear your in, etc. I typically tow at 65mph, 2300 rpm's, coolant temps 220° and oil temp 210°.
2. Get a hydra, that way you can put lots of different tunes on it from different tuners. EGT is a animal all its own, right foot down and EGT's up. Of course if you keep your EGT's up to 1200° the coolant and oil will eventually get hotter.
