Ospho rust converter?
I have been looking in to rusty metal treatment and ospho seem reasonably priced compared to other products, as well as it is a one step process.
Any thoughts or experiences would be much appreciated.
Thanks Brian
Phosphoric Acid leaves a milky, soapy film on top, after use. Just get that off with detergent/powerwash/chem's or whatever. It can keep primer from sticking.
It does provide some 'grab' for paint. However, you do need primer on top of it, mostly for sealing and adhesion.
As preparation, works great on top of the cab, and hoods, where the paint goes bad. It will damage good paint, so take care. Use gloves, don't mix with beer, etc.
I have also used Eastwood's paint & rust stripping pads on a grinder and it works pretty good.

I used the Eastwood encapsulator on the under side of the hood skin/frame before I put the skin & frame back together. Also did the under side of the fenders.

I don't have any pictures of using the Ospho but I used it inside doors. Sprayed it on heavy to seep into the edges & frame of the doors to "kill" any rust you cant get to with out removing the door skin from the frame to treat rust.
I also used it on the roof of my project truck because once I stripped (eastwood pad) the layers of paint & filler I found rust. It had some deep pits and only the Ospho would get into them. I let it sit 2 days to work in then sanded the area so I could use body filler as it will not stick to the chemical.
I still have to use it on the doors of this project truck.
I have also used Eastwoods inside frame coating with a long spray tube on a hood (1 year only hood and not many around now) that had no rust but wanted to coat it so it would not rust. I used it between the frame & skin as I did not take it apart like the pictures above.
This can be used anywhere between panels like windshield & door posts or roof panels that you can not get the Ospho into.

ps: the 2x4's where used to make benches that fold out to make table & bench http://www.2x4basics.com/outdoor-furniture.html
The 4x4 & rebar was used to make a fire wood stacker on the deck.
You say the Ospho leaves a coating that filler wont take. I was unaware of that. Thanks again.Brian
