Need advice 2000 Excursion V10

I recently bought a rust free Cali Excursion.

The maintenance seems like it was done very well on the truck. It has 168,000 miles and runs great. The trip meter puts it at 11.1mpg on my first tank. I have not filled it up to verify. It has 33" tires so I do not know if the mileage is even correct.

My question is should I go and change the plugs and the COP?

No misfires and runs smooth, the COP are yellow top Motor-craft. I do not know if everything is original or replaced. The carfax shows that it was maintained at a dealer.

Thanks for all advice in advance.

You can pull a plug to see if it is a newer Motorcraft SP-479.
The original plugs are no longer available.
If you're concerned about a plug working loose check the torque on all of them.
The COP assembly coils usually last a long time while the boots/springs degrade faster.
I change plugs/boots/springs at 50k.
On eBay the plugs are under $3/ea and Denso 671-0001 boots/springs are $30/box of 10.

Fresh plugs, boots and springs (installed correctly!) are easy enough and are always a good idea on a new to you rig. As mentioned the COPs do last a long time and only need to be replaced when and if they fail individually. I carry 2 new COPs with me on long trips just in case, have never needed to use on yet.
Stop on over in the Excursion part of this forum and say Hi and show off that big wagon!

Thanks for the suggestions. I will pull out a plug and check the number.

I have read good and bad things about pulling the plugs. I have maintained BMW for years and have not broken a plug ever in an aluminium head. The write up I read have my a little concerned. Warm/cold removal??, let the plugs sit with penetrating oil on them overnight?? Never even thought of doing that stuff on my BMWs and never had an issue.

Thanks for the suggestion on the COP. The previous owner has replaced one with an Accel under the hood and has a new one in the glovebox.

So far very happy with the V10 motor!! Plenty of power and the gas mileage is not too bad.

Change the plugs and boots and that oddball coil. Maintenance never hurts, plus it will give you time spent warming up to your new 'girl'!
