for anyone that has swapped a 302 or 5.0 in their truck... what headers did you use i have a set of shortys, but the passenger side is pointing to the frame rail a little too much doesn't hug the motor like the driver side. Heating and bending didn't work couldn't get it to budge. i also have a new pmgr starter which is a lot smaller than the original. looking for advice before i start ordering blindly. i also have the ifs with the crossmember. thanks in advance
I'm glad to see this posted.....I've often wondered if 90's 5.0 mustang manifolds or shorty headers would bolt up to my 70s 302 block and fit in the frame rails. If anything, it would be a clean, cheap route to get rid of all the 70s egr plumbing cluttering up my stock manifolds.
so my motor came out of an 89 Lincoln the speed density one, im using those stock manifolds. i woke up early and got working on the passenger side manifold i basically cut into it 2/3 and opened up the gap till it gave me enough of an angle then i patched it back together. the only reason i did this was all the reviews i was reading said the headers they bought needed modification or to lift up the motor and pinch them between the frame. so i tried cutting the ones i already had first and it worked. now i need to decide on a single or dual exhaust and what down pipe to use if someone can point me in the right direction. ill post a picture of the manifolds in a minute. thanks again for the advice everyone much appreciated
These are the headers I'm using. Looking for a down pipe or a t pipe for them or would it be easier to take it to an exhaust shop to get a down pipe made.
I used 94/95 5.0 Mustang stock tubular manifolds on a 351W in a 79 F150 4x4. The passenger's side was very close to the frame rail, but the head pipe easily clear it.
I just cut off the flanges of a stock Mustang H-pipe as a start and pieced it together to attach to the already existing dual exhaust.
86-93 Mustang shorties should be very similar in the outlet location, but I can see where the difference in deck height of the 302 compared to the 351w could change the relationship enough to not have the required clearance.
