Why is my glow plug controller smoking

So I was out this evening checking out everything on my old 89 7.3 idi and I noticed that when I turned the switch on that it was smoking from the fin thing on the side of the glow plug controller. I didn't see any trash or anything against it to cause it to smoke so I'm at a loss. Didn't see any smoke from any of the wires or anything just the fin. Can anyone please help me out here I don't wanna burn my truck down lol thanks for any advice at all. Is it possible the controller going bad

How long does your WTS light stay on and how cold is it outside where you live?

It stays on for around 8-10 seconds then it clicks and it stops smoking and it cranks right up. Just don't know why it suddenly started or if I just happened to notice it and it's been doing it

probably have a slight oil or fuel leak that is getting sprayed on the resister. then when you go to start the truck it burn off when the resister gets hot.
