i have a 06 f350 super duty and noticed that when I have the heat on and driving about 40-50 mph I get the smell of coolant inside the cab. My temp gauge stays right in the middle like normal. When I got home tonight I opened the hood and didn't see nothing major. I took a picture to maybe get some help. Anything would help thanks guys!
That white residue all over your degas bottle suggests it's puking coolant & drying. The 6.0 section of the forum has a tech folder that has a wealth of information.
The heater core is the usual suspect if coolant can be smelled in the cab but there's also a few holes for wiring to pass through the firewall right below & behind the degas bottle. If it's puking you will smell it in the cab.
Alright thanks bumblebee! I'm gonna look into it this week. I'm sending it into the shop this week to do the egr delete and other stuff so maybe I'll have them take a look at it.
I'm at a loss as to what a degas bottle is. I believe you referred to the coolant recovery container as the degas bottle. Never heard it called that before.
Sorry for the temporary thread hijack but I couldn't resist.
I will second the notion that the heater core is generally the culprit when there is coolant odor in the cabin.

Yes. Degas = coolant recovery tank = coolant reservoir = coolant tank
So many technical names for it LoL
How about coolant juggy thinga ma bober
Degas is a common name, but no worries if one hasn't heard it before. When it comes to learning (and even when you're experienced), of the most frusturating things about automotive stuff, and even anything hands on and trade related is the multiple names that often refer to the same thing... as if lots of the names and terminology aren't already vague enough as it is!
First thing I notice on your "coolant juggy thinga ma bober" is there is no new sticker or reference for the new maximum coolant level, which is the old minimum line.
What level are you keeping your coolant at? How old is that cap?
Ford reduced the coolant level because trucks were puking at a "normal" level because "normal" was too high. The caps can become defective and allow coolant to puke before reaching 16 PSI.
Now I just noticed that when the truck is warmed up and I left off the throttle and will be sitting at a light or sitting anywhere that the heat gets cold real quick almost like the ac is on or something. Any ideas???
