PROPANE INJECTION FTL
It was a terrifying 88 miles back to my driveway as the steering wheel has about 7 inches of side to side play in it. (with no immediate identifiers as to why) but mostly because of THE BOMB MOUNTED DIRECTLY BEHIND ME..
The truck doesn't have a rear aux tank underneath it anymore and the PO says he hasn't put gas in the side tank in over 2 years. SO.. I don't know anything about this propane system except that I want it out. Stat. Anyone with any experience with this set up I really just have one question.. Will the carb need a rebuild being that gasoline hasn't been through it in a couple years? OR will the fact that propane has been moving through it mean that gas should be good to go? I wan't to drop the side tank out and just install a 38 gallon from LMC in the rear, but I need to know if I should be calculating a carb kit into my budget/weekend as well. Any info would be greatly appreciated thanks!
38 gal tank means extending the sending unit arm and using longer bolts for the bottom straps. As far as the steering play... add up the play in the steering box (generally the main problem), steering shaft (F100 means you have a "rag joint"), both tie rod ends/wheel bearings, ball joints, you get a ton of play.

A bit of propane system info for ya. "Propane (LP or LPG) is a gas but exists in a liquid state when compressed. While it does not possess the energy that a comparable unit of gasoline does, it burns cleaner and is typically less expensive to purchase. Engines that run on propane have significantly cleaner internals due to propane's low carbon content. Also, since the gas is stored under pressure, vehicles running propane do not require fuel pumps, expensive injectors, or complex mixers such as those found in fuel-injected or carbureted systems. Another benefit is that propane's octane rating varies between 100 and 110, clearly higher than gasoline publicly available. Finally, propane systems either mount on top of, or replace, the carburetor entirely. This eliminates fuel starvation and stalling caused from bouncing or excessive vehicle angles."
The 38 gallon tank in LMC shows a sending unit available for it as well as a mounting kit.. I would still have to "extend the arm" if I get that one? And the mounting kit will not come with the needed harware?
Do you see the blue line with User CP, Albums, FAQ? See the SEARCH on that line?
It has a drop down search menu arrow, go to the "Advanced Search" option, top left side (search block) type in there what you are looking for and then go to the lower right column and highlight 73-79 forum. Select it and then you will have a detailed search just in the 73-79 forums.
Not sure it the tank kit comes with longer mount drop studs. All thread would work in a pinch.
