chuff chuff chuff

2001 F2/350 custom
97 7.3 long block that had been sitting for who knows how long.
97 cali split shot sticks
all 2001 items have been swapped.
EBPV delete & RR diode
2001 electrical
other than that, its "stock"
buzz test and functional tests .....
no codes present @ operating temp
zero tuners, chips, and or BS
4" straight pipe to the transfer
I havnt gotten to finish the exhaust yet.

all filters are new
new motorcraft valve cover gaskets, harnesses, and glow plugs
fresh delo 15W40
shes ready for another oil change, after about 600-ish miles, but thought it would be a good idea to get some detergent into the oil system before I
did

curious to know if running ATF in the crank case for the purpose of cleaning a lazy lifter or injector(believe it to be a lifter) will harm anything.

when I fire my truck up cold,(40-ish degrees) it has a slight chuff.
if I let it warm up for 10-15 minutes it almost goes away completely.

after it reaches operating temp, you can hear a very slight chuff
good power, runs great, starts good warm and cold

the only other issue (besides a oil leak)is that it starves for fuel when below 1/4 tank, (05 F450 rear tank)
believe this to be air ration from the return line.
filters have been pulled apart and cleaned, left it stock.

this is a low buck build for this round.
I have plans on a new engine in the future, just not this year.
ive already exceeded the budget for this project
like every other project ive ever done! lol

appreciate your time.

It is quite common to have fuel issues below 1/4 tank. Look for info on the in tank pick-up "foot" and in tank screens.

ive already been through the sender, replaced the shower head and pulled, and cleaned the filters.
but I did nothing for the return line to get it away from the pickup

Did you thoroughly clean the inside of the tank when you had it down? The F-450 was a steel tank and they are known for the lining inside to flake and sluff off. Could be that your in tank screens plugged up right away.

since I didn't get the "DO NOT DO THAT" post,
im gonna try it.
1 quart of ATF in the crank case and run it for 100 miles and then a oil change...

I'd recommend Hot Shot Secret Stiction formula.
