Rear End Serial #?

Can anyone confirm what rear end this is based on serial #?

Looks to me like BB-4193-B (or maybe D)?

Having difficulty uploading pics today but just want to gain some more knowledge on what I've got.

Thanks

That is not a serial number, it is a part number. Where is that number stamped, a picture would help a lot. Also, are you sure that it is 4193 because I don't see that part number in any rear ends of that era.

Is there a tag attached to one of the casing bolts?

That is the housing part number for the housing half without the pinion, drivers side, Timken/Ford axle F4-F5. The gear ratio is stamped on that housing between the two parallel ribs facing backward. It will have numbers like 6-35 (5.83 ratio) or 6-40 (6.67 ratio) stamped there. There is also a 5.14 ratio, but I don't remember the ring and pinion numbers.

The 5.14 would be 36-7

That's the casting number for the housing, it's not a part number.

Several hours ago, I looked at every rear axle parts list in the 1948/56 truck catalog, there's no such part number as BB-4193-B

In fact, there no basic part number of 4193 either.

Casting numbers are foundry marks, cannot be cross referenced to Ford part numbers.

BB is the early big truck truck, starting in '32. That's why you won't find BB parts in the '48 and later books

The BB number is from '32. The tube should have 7RT-4011-B cast in it close to the spring mount.

BB prefix introduced in 1932, but there are BB part numbers listed in parts catalogs thru at least 1979.

See pic in post #12 for BB rear axle part numbers.
