Check my logic

I have a scale for measuring tongue weight on my travel trailers. I am thinking that if I put that scale on a jack and stuck it under the front axle of my truck, then raised it up until it showed say 8 or 900 pounds of pressure on the scale, then lowered a travel trailer on the hitch, I'd be able to observe any weight shift off the scale.
The question becomes, would this value represent the actual weight that is being transferred off the front axle? It would seem to me that as long as the amount of weight that is being transferred is less than the amount of weight that is being measured by the scale, this should be a reasonably accurate reading.
I intend to hit the CAT scales on my next trip, but right now I'm looking for a way to come up with some hard numbers in my driveway.
Any thoughts?

I don't think that works quite how you intend, although it may be close.

The springs take slightly different amounts of force to compress then at different places in their travel.

Also, seems to me to be dangerous to be reaching under the front end of a truck that's partly balancing on a tower of scale/jack

Do you live that far from the cat scales? There's half a dozen or more in your state from my quick search.

If you are really that far, my thought is to just use the tape measure method to checking front bumper height to figure out how much weight you have taken off and put back with your WDH. I think the scale situation isn't really helping you that much.

Cat scales.. is $10.50.. and a second one within 24 hours is Free....

scale rig.... park off to the side.. disconnect trailer.. put truck back on scales...

read both scale slips... if changes are needed do in parking lot.. or go home and do them..

then return an re-scale.. Real numbers. no guessing or danger.

I'm betting you will be close and I know from your previous posts you are obsessive enough to be careful, so I am not worried about what you are doing. I am not exactly clear why you are doing this, but hey, I come up with a lot of "creative" stuff too when I want an answer fast.
