This might be a dumb question but the light for my overdrive is blinking and it won't stop. I tried pushing the button on the end of the shifter but it still blinks. No codes are triggered. This is on my 2000 7.3l 4x4 limited. I haven't check the fluid level yet. Just got home from an exhausting trip. Any info would be appreciated. Here is a picture.
With it on
With it off.

Does it flash with a steady on - off, or is it an irregular rate? If it is a steady on - off, then there ARE codes stored. You just don't have the right tool to read the codes.

Mark, What would an irregular flash pattern indicate? (Just trying to gain some education.)
An irregular or intermittent flashing or flickering is usually caused by chafed wiring with the flashing occurring whenever the bare wire happens to make contact with ground.
It's very obvious when an intelligent (timed) flashing is occurring vs one caused by the described wiring fault.
Forescan *should* be able to read the manufacturer-specific codes where most of the transmission faults seem to reside. On a 2000, it may be old enough that the transmission codes are not persistent across a PCM power down and back up cycle. You may need to keep the adapter hooked up and read the fault codes before shutting the engine off.

It is definitely steady flashing. Do you know if forscan will read the trans codes? I am hoping it is something fairly inexpensive. .........
Ok so I go out to drive to the doctors appointment and no flashing overdrive off light. She was shifting smooth and no problems. I was ok with that until I hit a pothole and looky there flashing off light is back and she is shifting harder......ugh. I haven't gotten out there to check codes with forscan yet. I am just wondering what caused it to stop......it seems strange that a pothole would make it have issues again.

Thanks for the info I will try it later today and let you all know how it goes. I really hope that this is something easy to fix.
