Single Pop

Hello everyone,

This is my first post and I am new to this site, well posting anyways, been following for years.

I have a 2000 Excursion lifted 6 inches with 35" tires on 20" Fuel wheels and i notice when I make a left or right hand turn between 10-20 mph i get a single pop or clunk from the front end. wondering if anyone has run into this issue?

also one more really annoying thing while i am turning there is creaking, sounds like body flex? maybe body mounts? any help would be great.

anyone have issues with ball joints?

I had to do ball joints on mine. Not too difficult or expensive to do. They can creak eden bad, or clunk or pop or cause a vibration. Check them for play and for noise with am automotive stethoscope.

Yeah that was one of the things I already replaced was the sway bar and bushings. Good advise though

Afmedic- I have chassis ears that I tried using last weekend but the creaking of the body made it pretty difficult to pin point.

Disconnect the front anti-sway bar links at the bar and let them and the bar dangle. Now see if you still hear the single pop.

What are the exact conditions that will make it pop? Turning the wheel, hitting a bump? Will it do it if you turn the wheel sitting still?

Sheet metal pop sound? Clunk metal on metal? Might be two separate issues.

I'd safely (level, block rear tires, ample capacity jack stands) lift the front axle off the ground and do some pulling/tugging/turning to try to recreate.

Afmedic- the single clunk only happens when I'm making a right or left hand turn doing about 10mph. I'd say the steering wheel is turned maybe half way to 3/4 turned, not fully locked.
Wpnaes- I'd say it is more like a sheet metal pop, I can feel it at my feet as well as passenger feet, its pretty loud and quick as well. I will try the lifting of the front end this week sometime.
Thanks for all the tips everyone I appreciate it

Do you have a rear Hellwig anti-sway bar?

Take a close look at the track bar bushings on both ends. It's the bar that centers the front axle.

Will do, I'm going to jack the front end up this week and see what I find. Might lift the body off and lube the body mounts
