Hi all, I have a 2000 Ford Excursion 4x4 7.3 with 230K miles, around 15,000 miles ago I replaced the transmission with a rebuilt 4R100, lately I have noticed a leak towards the back end where the transmission and the transfer case connects. Some of the bolts on the bottom of the pan have ATF on them, some others however do not. I have had to add a quart of ATF in the past couple of days in order for it to engage into drive when going from Park to Drive. I have to rev it before it actually kicks in. I'm hoping the leak is just being caused by a gasket either in the pan or connecting the trans to the transfer case, if someone could please help me out and enlighten me i'd definitely appreciate it, thanks guys
Now that you mention it, I do believe the pan was already installed on it, i'm gonna flush it and change the fluid this weekend, I have had numerous people tell me not to change the filter, would that cause issues if I replaced it with a new one? Thanks for the reply!
A new filter won't cause problems if you install it correctly.
First, make sure the o-ring comes out of the pump inlet. Usually it stays in there when you pull the filter out. Make sure the new filter has a new o-ring and that you've seated it all the way into the pump inlet.
no sure where you are located but i have one, filter that I can not use.. its the short tail model not the longer tail like the one currently..
if you want it let me know.
not knowing is the filter was replaced after the rebuild, i would hope so, mark was saying they, ford had seen filters with some 300k miles that did just fine in a working maintained transmission.
that helped me decide not to rush out and get new filter when I pulled the short one of the box.
going to do a full change out of fuild and install new 6.0 cooler in a couple years but for now sticking with the old filter and new fluid.
truck had 162K when i got it and PO said he had not had a fluid change in his ownership which was from about 80K miles.

yeah did not know that when i got it at rockauto.. that is what they sent me. You would think a place like that would know a short tail will NOT work with a 4R100 SD truck 2x4 or 4x4.
It was my mistake to recommend this to him.. need to post on the f-150 lightnings site.

The Gen 2 F150 Lightning's got the 4R100 with the shallow, 4x2 transmission pan, hence the shorter filter.
