I recently bought a little Ford Ranger POS. I thought I was suckering the guy when I bought it because I found out it was 4x4 and he didnt know! It turned out the "rolling over back roads and boulders" feeling that I was getting was not offroading, but simply a completely shot front end suspension. So yeah, I have to redo all of that before taking it do the 605.
I have a question guys.
I'm working on my brothers 76 pickup. Three gauges are not working, the oil, coolant temp and fuel. Those three are all controlled by the instrument panel voltage regulator. The regulator looks fairly new but..... am I answering my own question? Hope so.
It's Sunday so the auto parts store isn't open soooo you guys get to listen to me think out loud.
Yup. That's the single thing common to all three gauges.
I'm not sure what voltage they regulate down to (may still be as low as six volts), but the purpose is to not see your gauges go up and down at the same rate as your alternator's output voltage (which varies somewhat).
I wouldn't suggest that you jumper it out just to see if the gauges actually work, as I don't know how far down the voltage is regulated.
Modern ones are solid state. Be sure that's what you get as a replacement.
BTW, be sure that there's not a blown supply fuse.
