This rear axle is different than the one in your truck, because the width of the inner frame rails behind the cab increased from 33 1/2" used thru 1972 to 37 1/2" in 1973.
You got a very good deal I just bought a new trac lock with 3:25 gears for a 70 housing that I am putting in my 55 F-100 and it was a chunk of change. I have never seen pitting like that it makes me think that it sat in place with a bunch of moisture around.
Thanks NumberDummy. You're a great help and are a wealth of info
. Artscott61, I found the axle on a community sale site. It was originally listed for $200 but I didn't see it until he had lowered it to $100. He said the axle was in the back of a truck that he bought along with other parts. The axle was the only thing left.
Initially it put the adjuster in the wrong place as you see from the photo. Thankfully the brake drum would not go on. Reinstalled adjuster and all went well.
Ya, that would have kept the shoes sitting a little wide like that, huh? Good one, thanks for sharing that. We all need a little humor in our day, I think.
