Personally, I think the shortbed looks better. In my area, CCSB are the most popular truck by far (and I'd bet they are nationally, as well)...and they are the easiest to sell.

For me, ride quality is not much different. If you drive off-road, the long bed has a substantially worse ramp breakover angle and the overall length adds to the liability.

Parking these things in a city is difficult in a short bed and a longbed. I came from driving 4 different CCSB trucks, and I barely notice any difference in parking with the dually. Slightly more liability, but these things are just plain big and cumbersome all around.

Turning circles grew on all models for 2017...because wheelbases grew for 2017.

The payload capacity is better on short bed trucks.

BUT

The longbed offers an extra 15" of bed space.
It offers the 48 gallon fuel tank
It guarantees you get the 3" trailer hitch on Job 2 trucks (even though you might still get it on a SB truck)
It is a more stable towing platform

I have had my 01 C LB since new and I ordered a 17 CC LB. Yes it is like turning an aircraft carrier. Yes you back in most parking spaces or do pull through. I have noticed that my big ol truck can easily drive over parking lot lines, meaning they are only a suggestion of where I park. Fuel tank size is a big plus on the road.
In a heavy duty truck i would only consider a LB.
I do like the look of a SB. I had a 150 SB and it was easy to maneuver, but the bed never had enough room.

I really do like the look of a SB better, but as said... too many pluses for the LB

you cant beat the ride and the way the extra wheelbase helps manhandle a trailer, fuel tank is very nice as well as still having bed space with a large toolbox

I went with the longer bed and will only get one going forward. I use it as a daily driver in Northern VA/DC Metro and really only have trouble sometimes turning at a drive thru. But having the 48 gallon tank is awesome and allows me to travel 700+ miles on a single tank.

I figured it was only about a foot and a half longer and LB's are so much more useful. I love the 48 gal tank. The wife wanted a SB, but the LB was available when we were ready to buy. We speced out the same truck as we bought with a SB and there was only a couple hundred bucks difference. We went with the instant gratification and bought the LB that was in stock.

Thanks to all who responded.
Lots of good insight.
I think you all have convinced me to go with the long bed.

I would buy a 2nd car or SUV to go with my long bed truck. When I need something shorter, lower, for city parking, parking garages, a short bed SD doesn't really cut it.

What I have seen so far...at 6 foot 10 inches high few parking garages are high enough for a SD and city parking spaces are just not sized for either a SB or LB, too short and too narrow. I have a handicap parking permit which saves me, most are extra wide and long to accommodate handicap vans.

I have been able to navigate multiple drive throughs...but just barely in my SWR without rubbing a tire on a curb, a DWR forget it.

Measure off 53 feet. Now add 4 feet. think about if that 4 ft really will make much difference when your already starting at 53 feet. (it doesn't). Love my CCLB.

I wouldn't consider anything but an 8' bed. have it now on my regular cab. I need it for bikes/quads....sheets of plywood etc. when its raining (i have roll up tonneau cover). I was going to get super cab this time just for some extra interior room and ability to recline the seat. I have no kids and the rear seats will hardly ever be used, but I found out you lose to many nice options with super cab. So its CCLB for me. I plan on getting this auxilliary fuel tank. Just for long camper trips. PIA manuevering around for fuel with the 31' trailer. Quad will just fit with it and the tailgate closed. 94 gallons will be nice.ATI 46 Gallon Rectangle Refueling Tank

If I towed every day I'd get a LB. If I were on the road through rural areas with few stops I'd get the LB for the bigger fuel tank. If I never planned to off-road/camp/overland out of it I'd get the LB. If I were in the city a lot I'd get the SB. Resale is better on the SB here in my AO. 34 gallons on the new SB trucks is plenty and if I needed more it's much cheaper to get a 50-60 gallon Titan tank than a new truck. I didn't notice much of a difference in ride quality between the two wheel bases, but I did hate driving a dually anytime other than when I was towing. The SB is cheaper and more readily available, and short of 6"+ lifted LB with a camper, the SB always looks better. I have never complained about bed space in a SB, but I don't work out of my truck and I don't have a tool box that eats up the first two feet either.

I leaning toward SB, For looks, payload & parking. If i need to haul things 8',tailgate down, And if we can make through 34 gal of gas before we need to stop I would be very surprised

Parking lots in the Boise area are generally not long bed/dually friendly and with twin two-year-olds, having a vehicle that I could fit in most parking spots was pretty huge
Exactly the same logic on my part. My 2017 is my second diesel CCSB Super Duty. I installed the Titan tank on both trucks so the fuel capacity was not a problem. Plus I prefer the look of the CCSB.

I'm a short bed guy. With the 6' 9" bed I can still get a sheet of 8" plywood in without hanging over the tailgate. Anything larger than that and I'm using a trailer to haul it. The short bed is short enough to park in most parking spaces. The long bed you'd have to find two across from each other and take them both or risk having the rear end of your truck get run into.
