So I have a bad taillight socket and ordered the OEM Ford replacement. I'd like to avoid splicing and cutting my factory wires. May be a stupid question, but is it possible to release the pins from the backside of the old and new socket and just "plug in" to my existing wiring and pins versus butt splicing or soldering in the new pigtail?
The plating on the old pins is normally what is worn out or corroded. Its best to splice in the new wires. You can buy pins and replace those if you want to search for them. But soldering in the new ones and protecting the splices with heat shrink tubing will last for years.
Ok thanks guys I'm just gonna splice in my new part. NumberDummy, when you get a chance can you take a look at my steering column post requesting your help with part numbers located here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...-problems.html Thanks for your help!
